Talk about more music here!| Peter, Paul and Mary once said........... | | The singing trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, once sang, "Where have all the FLOWERS gone?" And I do find these days many people asking the same questions, "Where have all the FLOWERS gone? "Maybe its us, if there are no flowers or there are less flowers around,, do you think it may be a good idea to grow some. Not that hard to do, some potting mix, dampen with water and plant some seedling or some seeds. sit in a warm but not hot place and next that Plants will grown and soon FLOWERS will appear."Where have all the FLOWERSW gone" Maybe at your place next season, maybe in a few weeks if you plant some this week.Whats you Idea on all this.HICCUP/
| | Peter, Paul and Patty | | So we're still listening to the Peter, Paul and Mary CD in the car. Dearra syas to me this morning, "Mom, why didn't they call it Peter, Paul and Patty?" "Um, because her name is Mary." "Yeah, but it doesn't fit." "How about Peter, Paul and Paradox?" "Peter, Paul and Pathetic?" Then she says, "well at least I don't have to listen to Right Field today". For some reason she's taken a dislike to that particular song. So I said, "I can move it to that song." "NO!!!" Goes into a 12 year old tirade about why the song is so stupid, "it's sung badly, it's about a kid who's awkward and slow", bla bla bla...So I said, "it's an inspirational song. It's about a boy who is awkward and then one day he makes a brilliant catch.""I don't care. I don't like it. Do you like it Naomi?""NO!!!"So I said, "well Cary likes it!""No he doesn't. Do you like it Cary?"Said very softly, "no"...So I went into my Dearra imitation."Geez, people. It's a song about a boy who thinks he can't do something and then it turns out he can. He feels better about himself. It's a beautiful song. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!"[em]angry[/em]OK well they still don't like the song, but... | |
| | Another Legendary Performer Dies: Mary Travers Of Peter, Paul and Mary | | Oh no! I think too many people have died this year. Only days ago, many of our hearts were broken when we heard of the passing of Patrick Swayze, who fought a valiant fight against his pancreatic cancer, but lost. Now another legendary performer has died, that is Mary Travers of that famous trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Those of you who are younger may not even remember or know who Peter, Paul and Mary were, but for those of the "Woodstock Generation" Peter, Paul and Mary were one of the epitome folk artists going and who were anti-Vietnam War and sung classic songs like, "Leaving On A Jet Plane" "Lemon Tree" and "Blowing In The Wind" which written by another famous folk singer Bob Dylan, became a national anthem of sorts for the anti-Vietnam movement and made popular by Peter, Paul and Mary.Mary Travers was 72 years old when she died September 15th after a long battle with cancer (Leukemia) despite a successful bone marrow transplant. Here's an article about her passing and her accomplishments: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2009/09/16/2009-09-16_mary_travers_of_peter_paul_and_mary_dead.htmlHere's a youtube video of Peter, Paul and Mary singing Blowing... | |
| | Peter, Paul and Mary. | | A little while ago one of my sons gave me a VHS copy of Peter, Paul and Mary's twenty-fifth anniversary concert. I was delighted, since this is my favourite musical group from the sixties and seventies. How many of you can remember the music of that era, what were some of your favourite songs? | |
| | | | What type of music do you prefer? | | Different people, different likes, different music. i prefer to listen to folk songs. the likes of james taylor, john denver, dan fogelberg, peter, paul and mary, simon and garfunkel, seals and crofts, neil young, jim croce. i like their type of music. i really like listening to their music. how about you guys? | |
| | Things that will never come again... | | Well I was over on YouTube watching this Peter, Paul and Mary video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIl8JMkPylM (Don't they work an audience well?) And I was thinking I wish I had taken the opportunity to see one of their concerts. After all, Mary Travers passed away last year, so that is an opportunity that has passed me by permanently.
Last summer I got an e-mail advertisement for the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles for Topol's farewell tour of Fiddler on the Roof. There's another one that passed me by. Just didn't have the vacation time or the money to fly down there for a show.
When I was still living in LA, I passed on seeing Yul Brynner in The King and I and Richard Kiley in Man of La Mancha.
And those are just shows....
There's my mom and my Uncles Mike, Dck and Jim who aren't there any more.
Do you ever think about opportunities missed, things that are gone, or especially people you will never see again?
| | Sometimes children are smarter than we are, funnier too... | | This morning Dearra asked me how much soldiers get paid. I told her, "not all that much." She was outraged. "Why? They fight and put their lives on the line." "I don't know, I just know it's relatively low." "Well, they should get paid as much as the President." Kids are smart. Then we're driving to school and there's the usual running commentary about the musical selection, which is still Peter, Paul and Mary. Puff the Magic Dragon was playing. Dearra says, "what a dumb name, Puff. Of course he puffs. He's a dragon." So I said, "they could have named him Huff." Naomi says, "yeah so he can huff and puff and blow the house down?" I said, "no so he can huff and puff and burn the house down." Eye rolls all around...Next song was 500 miles. "Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two, Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four, Lord I'm 500 miles from my home." And Dearra wants to know what's with the infantile counting thing. So I told her, "they're counting the miles." "Yes, but what are they saying before that?" "Lord I'm"... "What kind of word is that? What does that mean?" "They're talking to God." "Huh?" "Lord is..." Loud interruption, "Ohhhhhh, Lord, I thought it was some kind of German word." "No,... | |
| | I just learned something about adding interests | | I just tried to add "Peter, Paul and Mary" to my interests and it came up as two different interests - "Peter" and "Paul and Mary" - because I had the comma in there. I didn't even think that the punctuation would make a difference. I've figured out that proper punctuation in the interest name will mess it up a bit... | |
