Talk about more music here!| I'm not a huge fan of folk music, thus I have some questions | | If you are a fan of sixties folk rock (bob dylan, joan baez, Cat Stevens, etc.), I need a hand in the right direction.I am looking for lyrics pertaining to feminine oppression and lyrics pertaining to corporate greed for a couple of points I'm trying to make in a paper I'm writing for a Humanities course. If you have knowledge of folk music, could you please be kind enough to point me in the right direction in the way of search terms? Thanks very much in advance,
Shannon
PS: I may be back asking for help in the area of Punk rock as well lol
| | Favorite Quotes - What is yours? | | Some are funny, some thoughtful, other inspiring.
What is your favorite quote/saying?
I have many. My favorite may change every few months.
Right now I truly enjoy the thoughtful quote as follows:"If you judge people, you have no time to love them" by Mother Theresa.I like this quote because so many time I run into people who talk badly of someone when they are no present to defend themselves. I can not stand that. I love this quote for that reason. What is your favorite quote and why?
| | I was a little disappointed | | I went to see him about a year ago in Michigan when he toured with Elvis Costello. Costello was awesome and I wanted him to play longer, then Dylan took the stage and the entire time, he would just talk the lyrics of the songs and seemed to rush through them. He didn't sing at all or even sound Bob Dylan-y. I feel lucky that I got to see him live in my lifetime before he retires but lets just say that his show wasn't exactly transplendent. | |

"Roam from town to town
Guess I get people down
But I don’t care too much about that
Cause my gut and my wallet are fat Make a whole lotta dough
But I deserve it though
I’ve got soul and a good heart of gold
So I’ll sing about war in the cold "any others?
| | Bob Dylan; as good as a singer as Caruso | | I watched "Don't Look Back" on DVD last night. In case no one has ever heard of it, it's a film about Bob Dylan's 1965 British tour. In the film Bob was being interviewed and he said "I'm as good a singer as Caruso. Have you ever heard me sing? You have to listen closely but I hit all the notes. And I can hold my breath three times as long as Caruso if I want to". Bob was just joking, but personally I think he was right. I think he has an amazing voice.I've seen people start discussions here along the lines of "Who is better, Metallica or Iron Maiden?". However, I'm almost certain no one has ever asked "Who is better, Caruso or Bob Dylan?". So, do you think Bob Dylan is better than Caruso? | |
| | | Bob Dylan | | Bob Dylan has gone through different phases and eras, if you will, but has continued in his tradition of beautiful writing of both music and lyrics throughout. What are some of your favourite Bob Dylan songs or albums, or just favourite lines from different songs? I have many so share some of yours and I'll share some of mine. | |
| | OMG--I Don't Believe It...It Was THAT Long Ago? | | Just watching something on the news thatforty years ago one of the greatest music festival occurred-----WOODSTOCK and I'm thinking...crap was it THAT long ago--talk about feeling like an old fart[em]shocked[/em]I was only thirteen years old when Woodstock happened and way to young to have been there in person, but have seen the Woodstock movie (both versions...theatrical and extended)For those of you too young...the Woodstock Festival took place August 15th to August 18th 1969 and was coined the festival of three days of peace, love and music as it was the largest ever get together of people recorded for a music festival. Originally only 5,000 people were expected at that now famous Max Yasgur's 600 acre farm.....instead over half a million people showed up. Considering the number of people that were there, it really WAS a peaceable celebration...no fights, no murders, everyone was mellow--oh course maybe since most people were stoned out of their minds...[em]w00t[/em]. Woodstock epitomized that whole hippie, peace and love movement I was to grow up inFor more particulars of Woodstockhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock_FestivalThe list of performers is... | |

| | Geordie | | About this discussion of mine
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1429369.aspx
I just noticed that there IS an English version of the song Geordie...i even knew it once, dont know why i forgot about it...and i think Joan Baez sang it herself, besides the duet with Faber...anyway, here are the lyrics to Geordie in English...it's heartbreaking but i love it...As I came over London Bridge
One misty morning early,
I overheard a fair pretty maid
Lamenting for her Geordie.
'Come bridle me my milk-white horse,
Come bridle me my pony,
That I may ride to London's court,
To plead for the life of Geordie.'
And when she entered in the hall,
There was lords and ladies plenty.
Down on her bended knee she fall,
To plead for the life of Geordie.
'Oh, Geordie stole no cow nor calf,
Nor sheep he never stole any,
But he stole sixteen of the king's wild deer,
And sold them in Bohenny.
'Oh, two brave children I've had by him,
And the third lies in my bosom; And if you would spare my Geordie's life,
I'd freely part from them every one.'
The judge looked over his left shoulder,
And... | |
